Ararat Lodge is a family owned and operated business that has been accomodating lovers of nature
for over a decade. Originally, the property was used for farming, but the spectacular, unspoilt beauty of the Colo River made
the site perfect for people who wanted to escape the city and surround themselves with the serenity of the Wollemi. Early
on, the riverside provided a campground for church and school groups. Later, Ararat Lodge was constructed to accomodate larger
groups and offer amenities.
The Lodge is a wonderful building, constructed of mud bricks made from the
natural clay of the valley. The building incorporated the original framework of an earlier farming shed, staying true to the
organic structure of the earlier building. Accommodation units were also constructed using the local mud brick. The Lodge
has been built with the surrounding environment in mind, and provides a unique and beautiful setting for visitors to relax
in, with ranging views over the valley.
Construction of Ararat Lodge was the idea of Peter and Barbara McLaren,
the owners of the property. Originally, the purpose of The Lodge was to provide a retreat specifically for Christian Groups.
Today, The Lodge accomodates the needs of all groups, from couples in need of a quiet break, to church groups, yoga retreats,
and art workshops.
